white-flies

Whiteflies are small winged insects which typically feed on the underside of leaves. The Whitefly can gravely injure the plants which it feeds. By using its “needle-like” mouthpart, Whiteflies suck juices from plants causing yellowing, wilting, leaf drop, or even death. The Whitefly also causes damage to its host due to its ability to excrete a substance known as honeydew. Honeydew is a waste product which promotes the growth of mold and hinders growth of the actual host. The damage caused by whiteflies can be seen as extensive when dealing with large infestations. Globally, whiteflies have been estimated to have caused millions of dollars in economic damages.
